The way we are fishing is affecting the health of our ocean environment.
Taking too much of the fish by commercial fishing threatens the sustainability because there are less fish to breed. The over fishing of one species of fish can ruin the food chain and may cause them to go extinct. Some ways of commercial fishing damages the sea bed destroying the habitat of the fish. Commercial fishing should stick to their quota and not over fish the targeted fish.
The fishing industry limits the amount of fish they are allowed to take from the ocean. They also throwback undersized fish if they think that they will be able to survive. Some organisations have created areas where you are not allowed to fish, these are called Green Zones. It is illegal to fish in these places. One problem is countries that do not follow procedures.
People should respect the law and not take more than they are allowed and not take fish that is too small.
Any actions about future sustainability will only work if it is constantly being watched. There has to be consequences for taking more than you are allowed and disobeying the law. In commercial fishing they have Fishery observers who go on the boat and check that they are following procedure.
