Shylock Character Study #2
Shylock makes his last appearance in A4S1

  • How does he behave when he thinks he is winning?

Phases of the moon
  • New moon:  looks like the moon went bye-bye
  • Waxing crescent: when the light takes more than it should and leaves a crescent shape
  • First-quarter: like the third quarter  it is half light and half dark
  • Waxing gibbous: when the light takes over the darkness of the moon
  • Full moon: the full white moon.
  • Third-quarter: like the first quarter  it is half light and half dark
  • Waning crescent:
  • Dark moon:
Moon’s impact on all earth tides
High tides and low tides are caused by the moon. The moon's gravitational pull generates something called the tidal force. The tidal force causes Earth—and its water—to bulge out on the side closest to the moon and the side farthest from the moon. These bulges of water are high tides.
What is a solar and lunar eclipse:
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth passes between the Moon and the Sun, and the Earth's shadow obscures the moon or a portion of it. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, blocking all or a portion of the Sun. An eclipse can be total, partial, or annular.
What is our sun made up of?
Our sun is made up of:
  1. Hydrogen
  2. Helium
  3. Nitrogen
  4. Carbon
  5. Oxegen
  6. Neon
  7. Iron
  8. Silicon
  9. Magnesium
  10. Sulphur
The planets order:
mercury-venus-Earth-Mars-jupiter-Saturn-uranus-neptune
Mercury: A big ball of stone and rocks (pretty much another Moon)
Venus: second brightest planet and was named afterromn god of  LOVE AND BEAUTY.

Earth: how to describe- once was beauty now a reck and doom of a planet. (pretty much a living HELL)
Mars: Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and is the second smallest planet in the solar system. Named after the Roman god of war, Mars is also often described as the “Red Planet” due to its reddish appearance. Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere composed primarily of carbon dioxide. Equatorial Diameter: 6,792 km it's also famous for its red eye.Image result for mars tornado

Distance from Sun: 227.9 million km
Orbital period: 687 days
Length of day: 1d 0h 37m
Gravity: 3.711 m/s²
Moons: Phobos, Deimos
Jupiter:
  • Jupiter Is Massive:
  • Jupiter Cannot Become A Star:
  • Jupiter Is The Fastest Spinning Planet In The Solar System:
  • The Clouds On Jupiter Are Only 50 km Thick:
  • The Great Red Spot Has Been Around For A Long Time:
  • Jupiter Has Rings:
  • Jupiter's Magnetic Field Is 14 Times Stronger Than Earth's:
  • Jupiter Has 67 Moons:
Saturn: is famous for the most visible Ring.
Saturn is one of the gas giants.
Saturn is an evil planet it has cold shards of ice stones and rocks in the belt ring.
Uranus:
Neptune:

  • It takes Neptune 164.8 Earth years to orbit the Sun. On 11 July 2011, Neptune completed its first full orbit since its discovery in 1846.
  • Neptune was discovered by Jean Joseph Le Verrier. The planet was not known to ancient civilizations because it is not visible to the naked eye. The planet was initially called Le Verrier after its discoverer. This name, however, was quickly abandoned and the name Neptune was chosen instead.
  • Neptune is the Roman God of the Sea. In Greek, Neptune is called Poseidon.
  • Neptune has the second-largest gravity of any planet in the solar system – second only to Jupiter.
  • The orbit path of Neptune is approximately 30 astronomical units (AU) from the Sun. This means it is around 30 times the distance from the Earth to the Sun.
  • The largest Neptunian moon, Triton, was discovered just 17 days after Neptune itself was discovered.
  • Neptune has a storm similar the Great Red Spot on Jupiter. It is commonly known as the Great Dark Spot and is roughly the size of Earth.
  • Neptune also has a second storm called the Small Dark Spot. This storm is around the same size as Earth’s moon.
  • Neptune spins very quickly on its axis. The planets equatorial clouds take 18 hours to complete one rotation. The reason this happens is that Neptune does not have a solid body.
  • Only one spacecraft, the Voyager 2, has flown past Neptune. It happened in 1989 and captured the first close-up images of the Neptunian system. It took 246 minutes – four hours and six minutes – for signals from Voyager 2 to reach back to Earth.
  • The climate on Neptune is extremely active. In its upper atmosphere, large storms sweep across it and high-speed solar winds track around the planet at up to 1,340 km per second. The largest storm was the Great Dark Spot in 1989 which lasted for around five years.
  • Like the other outer planets, Neptune has a ring system, though its rings are very faint. They are most likely made up of ice particles and grains of dust with a carbon-based substance coating them.
  • Neptune has 14 known moons. The largest of these moons is Titan – a frozen world which spits out particles of nitrogen ice and dust from below its surface. It is believed that Titan was caught by the immense gravitational pull of Neptune and is regarded as one of the coldest worlds in our solar system.
  • Neptune has an average surface temperature of -214°C – approximately -353°F.

Deforestation

Key Question 1: What is the environmental/social sustainability issue?
Deforestation is when companies cut down a lot of trees.  This can be for a lot of different reasons.
Key Question 2:  What factors have caused this issue?
The need for oils such as essential oils ( lavender, peppermint, tea tree oil, patchouli, and eucalyptus)
Palm oil is used in many products from food, to make up and even soap.
This is huge for deforestation in the amazon.  Sometimes they cut down trees to make space to
build buildings or factories .
Key Question 3:  What will happen if this issue continues to degrade?
Image result for deforestation anime drawing
If this continues there will be no more forests  to clean the worlds air supply and generate oxygen,
and the animals will lose their habit and will die.  Orangutans are very badly affected animal that is losing
their homes. There will be less materials for making paper etc.  Deforestation causes slips on hillsides
because there are no trees to absorb the rain and hold the land together with its roots, and it affects the
natural ecosystem and waterways.
Key Question 4: What are the possible solutions to this issue (either being currently done or could be
done)?

plant trees or cut down less trees Plant a Tree where you can.  Use less paper at home and at work.
Buy recycled products and then recycle them again. Read the labels. Support the products of companies
that are trying to stop deforestation. It’s all about business. If you don’t buy it, they won't sell it.
Buy only what you need.
Don’t use Palm Oil or products with Palm Oil.
Conclusion
I learned that because of companies are a big cause of deforestation as “every minute a forest the size of 20 foot ball fields is cut down” because of deforestation lots of animals lose homes and have nowhere to go and are dying. There are lots of ways to help stop deforestation starting with the most common stop using palm oil and recycle.

Earth balloon

Earth Balloon

In social studies we are looking at sustainability. We did a small activity where we had a balloon that we had blown up and we got asked a bunch of questions and depending on our answers depends on whether we let air in or let it out. Our balloon ended up being quite small. We then had some questions to answer

  1. What happened to your earth?
It grew a little and shunk a little. It ended up being a small earth/balloon

  1. Why did this happen?
Because we are kinda sustainable but not fully

  1. What could we do to stop that from happening? Or make it continue?
Break the bad habits we have and make new better ones

  1. What is one thing we could do to change our behavior?
Use both sides of paper, turn off a light as you leave the room.

Lately in science we have been learning about botany and cells. Cells are very small things that can't be seen without a microscope. They are the basic building blocks of plants and animals, but plant and animal cells are different.
