Deforestation

Key Question 1: What is the environmental/social sustainability issue? 

Deforestation is when companies cut down a lot of trees.  This can be for a lot of different reasons.

Key Question 2:  What factors have caused this issue? 

The need for oils such as essential oils ( lavender, peppermint, tea tree oil, patchouli, and eucalyptus)
Palm oil is used in many products from food, to make up and even soap.
This is huge for deforestation in the amazon.  Sometimes they cut down trees to make space to
build buildings or factories . 

Key Question 3:  What will happen if this issue continues to degrade? 

If this continues there will be no more forests  to clean the worlds air supply and generate oxygen,
and the animals will lose their habit and will die.  Orangutans are very badly affected animal that is losing
their homes. There will be less materials for making paper etc.  Deforestation causes slips on hillsides
because there are no trees to absorb the rain and hold the land together with its roots, and it affects the
natural ecosystem and waterways.

Key Question 4: What are the possible solutions to this issue (either being currently done or could be
done)?  

plant trees or cut down less trees Plant a Tree where you can.  Use less paper at home and at work.
Buy recycled products and then recycle them again. Read the labels. Support the products of companies
that are trying to stop deforestation. It’s all about business. If you don’t buy it, they won't sell it.
Buy only what you need.
Don’t use Palm Oil or products with Palm Oil. 

Conclusion

 I learned that because of companies are a big cause of deforestation as “every minute a forest the size of 20 foot ball fields is cut down” because of deforestation lots of animals lose homes and have nowhere to go and are dying. There are lots of ways to help stop deforestation starting with the most common stop using palm oil and recycle.
