kiwifruit DNA

Yesterday in science we were smashing up kiwifruit to extract the DNA from it:

Aim:

To extract the DNA from kiwifruit.

Materials:

Beaker, ethanol, dish soap, salt, kiwifruit, snap lock bag, mortar & pestle, cloth for straining.

Method:

1. Squeeze kiwifruit insides into the mortar and crush it into pulp.
2. Open bag and put cloth over opening, pour pulp in.
3. Squeeze the liquid into the bag, add dish soap and mix.
4. Add salt and mix.
5. Pour liquid into test tube and add ethanol.
6. Wait and the DNA will separate from the cells.
Observations:
It looked like a stringy thingy blobby thingy.

smoking vs vaping

In science we have been doing medical science and we looked at the effects of smoking and vaping. The effects of being a smoker varies depending on what and how long they are smoking.

 

Athletics day

On Thursday we had Athletics day this is what i liked and and disliked about it.
What did i like about Athletics day ? i liked that you could chose what you wanted to do.
What could have be better?  not as sunny and hot.

2. What are the two special events happening the day after the teenagers leave for the bush? The mackenzie and the show.
3. How many days were they planning on staying? How much food do you think is reasonable to bring, split between 7 teenagers? 5 days each
4. Who is the Hermit and what is he supposed to have done?he's a Murderer who lives in “hell”
5. Do you think the Hermit will be significant to this story? Why/Why not? Yes he built a bridge
6. Is their decent down Satan’s Steps into Hell dangerous? Discuss what are the dangers, how could they have made it safer, what would you have done? Stay home or bring rope.
7. Predict what the bridge signifies someone lives or lived there.

What is a simile

A simile is a figure of speech. Eg  the room was as cold as ice

What is a metaphor

A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes two things that are different but something in common.
Eg the snow is a white blanket.
