Yesterday in science we were smashing up kiwifruit to extract the DNA from it:
Aim:
To extract the DNA from kiwifruit.
Materials:
Beaker, ethanol, dish soap, salt, kiwifruit, snap lock bag, mortar & pestle, cloth for straining.
Method:
- Squeeze kiwifruit insides into the mortar and crush it into pulp.
- Open bag and put cloth over opening, pour pulp in.
- Squeeze the liquid into the bag, add dish soap and mix.
- Add salt and mix.
- Pour liquid into test tube and add ethanol.
- Wait and the DNA will separate from the cells.
Observations:
It looked like a stringy thingy blobby thingy.
